On the second day of the journey in Kenya, Gisele chose to not just learn about the difficulties faced by women in a small village outside of the city of Kisumu, but to live them and immerse herself in their culture. Our Goodwill Ambassador rolled up her sleeves and walked miles to accompany the village women to collect and chop firewood.
“Their wood gathering days begin at dawn and ends at dusk. They walk for hours to find trees that can be cut for wood. Unfortunately, many of the trees have been depleted. The day I joined them we walked over 5 miles and this was considered a short trip”, she tells on her blog. In addition to walking with them and carrying the wood, the model also heard their stories and worries about not having energy to cook with in the near future.
